The scope of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences spans the breadth of human endeavor. Within its more than 50 academic units, faculty and students are pursuing knowledge on scales that stretch from the subatomic to the cosmic and from the individual to the global.
We fondly refer to LAS as the heart of the University because of its fundamental role in all education and research. Of course it is much more. It is also its soul.

Fast Facts
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences constitutes more than half of the University of Illinois. It has 14,000 students, 600 faculty, more than 50 departments and academic units, and the Spurlock Museum. All students begin their careers at U of I with LAS courses; half graduate with degrees from the college.
