This U of I astronomer was the first in America to electrically measure the brightness of the moon in 1907.

Answer: Dr. Joel Stebbins

Stebbins was the director of the University’s Observatory. In 1970, the International Astronomical Union recognized Stebbins by naming a large crater on the moon and an asteroid in his honor.
