If you visited a University of Illinois sporting event in 1893, you would have seen fans and athletes adorned in these colors.

What colors were they?

Answer: Green and white

These colors reflected the athletic director’s Dartmouth roots. Before 1893, U of I used several color schemes, mostly gold and black. In 1948, with the inauguration of a new president, orange (freedom) and blue (steadfastness and stability) were selected.
