LAS graduate Michael Masser, who has written songs for Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, and Whitney Houston, was nominated for an Academy Award in Music in 1975.

Answer: “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)”

Masser (AB ’63, political science) was also nominated for a Grammy for “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” and for a Golden Globe for “So Sad the Song” from the movie Pipe Dreams. He is credited as a producer, arranger, or composer on over 80 albums, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007.
