Baton, badminton, and this still-popular children's activity were just a few of the sports women engaged in during the University's early years.

What is the activity?

Answer: Seesawing

The University deemed these activities appropriate for female students because the women were able to participate while wearing long skirts, which was customary women's attire in the 1800s.
