Molecular & Intregrative Physiology
Frog Talk
Move over, Kermit. You're not the only frog who can communicate.
Albert S. Feng, professor of molecular and integrative physiology in LAS, recently documented the first case of an amphibian using ultrasonic sounds to communicate. With special recording equipment, researchers found that this rare Chinese torrent frog produces high–pitched sounds that elicit responses from other torrent frogs.
These frogs join a select group of ultrasonic communicators that includes bats, whales, and dolphins.
