LAS Dean's Fellows Program

LAS Dean’s Fellows Announced

New Appointees will Lead in Key Areas Across the College and Campus

Student retention, international research, and interdisciplinary scholarship will be among the initiatives assumed by new LAS Dean’s Fellows recently named by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

LAS Dean Ruth Watkins says the three new faculty appointees will engage in a variety of leadership activities in the college and on campus for the 2012-13 and 2014 academic years.

The Dean’s Fellows are:

  • Karen Flynn, Gender and Women’s Students, and Department of African American Studies, who will concentrate on promoting student retention, particularly for underrepresented students.
  • John Polk, Anthropology, who will focus on facilitating external research proposals in social and behavioral sciences and humanities areas, and connect teams of scholars from across disciplines.
  • Anna Stenport, Germanic Languages and Literatures, will engage in strengthening international research, education, and outreach activities.

“They will assist the Dean and the LAS Cabinet with initiatives and critical activities in the College, bringing important perspectives from the faculty to the Dean’s Office,” Watkins says.
