Prelaw Advising
Prelaw is more a state of mind then a specific curriculum. The U of I students who recently applied to law schools represented no fewer than 56 undergraduate majors and every college. Therefore, students who are interested in law school have a great deal of flexibility in pursuing an undergraduate degree program.
The prelaw advisor helps students increase their chances for success by guiding them through the steps toward applying to law school and by suggesting courses and activities that will make him or her a more desirable applicant. Even though admission to law school is based primarily on a student's undergraduate grade point average and Law School Admission Test (LSAT), the school's do look for qualities that will set you apart from the rest of the applicants, such as evidence of leadership and initiative.
The prelaw advising office will help you identify your strengths and better position yourself. It also provides a "Letter of Recommendation Service" and oversees the application process.
You may browse its library of materials from law schools and its admission statistics. The office also organizes special seminars and meeting relevant to law school application.
