Manners and More—Business Etiquette
Monday, February 23
4:00-6:00 p.m.
Illini Union, Colonial Room
Fee: $10
Feel self-assured during that all-important business luncheon by attending this etiquette primer. Ruth Hayden, from Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, will teach the basics of dining etiquette—which silverware to use, when to begin eating, and how to eat those “difficult” foods. In addition, you will learn how to dress appropriately for a business interview, and how to make proper introductions.
Registration fee includes the workshop and a four-course meal.
Finding Purpose and Passion in the World of Work
Monday, March 2
4:00-5:30 p.m.
Illini Union, Room 314A
No Fee
Learn how to discover your passion, compose a purpose statement that can be used as an organizing principle in your life, and define what success means to you as you embark on your career. Using the “Authentic Vocation” model of career design, LAS alumna Erika Jones, director of Career Services at Kendall College, will share these techniques and explain how they relate to “business realities” today.
Marketing Your LAS Degree
Monday, March 16
4:00-5:30 p.m.
Illini Union, Room 210 (General Lounge)
No Fee
Enter the job market armed with career search insights, reality-based perspectives, and confidence. LAS alumna Margaret Resce Milkint, a partner in the executive search division at The Jacobson Group, will shatter stereotypes by showing why your LAS degree is a career advantage. You will learn how to creatively approach building your career, from “personal branding” to interview “dos and don'ts.”
This series is made possible by alumni, who generously volunteer their time to teach the seminars.
