Welcome to our awesome new website!

As you may have noticed, the LAS website is sporting a new look.

The makeover was driven by a need to improve accessibility and web standards support. But the site was also overdue for some re-organization, cleaning, and a fresh look to tie it all together.

We encourage you to explore the site. If you find any broken links or other issues we may have missed, please let us know. We will be continually refining the site, adding new features and functionality. We are making every effort to ensure the site meets the needs of our current and future students, our alumni, our faculty and staff, and all other friends of the college.

Thanks for visiting!

The website was developed by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, with the design by the LAS Office of Communications and Marketing and implementation by ATLAS Web Services.

The U of I has a lot to offer, and the Learning Communities program is here to help you make the most of it.

Learning Communities

Some of the best years of your life will be experienced here at the U of I. But it is a big change—new surroundings, new people, new things to learn. We want you to be well prepared. That's why we created Learning Communities—a program that helps get your college career off to a strong start.

Learning Communities (LCs) are groups of 14 to 18 freshmen who are enrolled together in one general education class together during the fall semester. These students also attend a one-hour weekly discussion—for credit—where peer mentors, called Learning Leaders, share tips on everything from test-taking to using campus resources.

Some of the students in LCs study together; many students in LCs become long-lasting friends.

What better way to be initiated to the U of I?
