Discover how globalization is transforming your world through the Global Studies program.

Choose from a host of 100–level courses encompassing religious studies, economics, history, sociology, geography, English, and anthropology—all focusing on common themes in globalization. Each course introduces you to world cultures and teaches you how to recognize and critically assess the forces of globalization. You will explore questions of cultural identity and your place in tomorrow’s world.

Several times during the semester all of the Global Studies courses meet jointly for guest lectures by prominent speakers from politics, media, and the arts.

  • Courses Abroad—Global Studies
Students in the Global Studies program receive priority enrollment for three–week courses abroad during winter break. Locations include Brazil, China, France, Italy, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, and Turkey.

Learning Communities (LC) will help you hit the ground running at U. of I. and build your network of friends.

Each LC consists of 14 to 18 students who enroll in a general education class together during their first semester. These students also attend a one-hour weekly discussion—for credit—where peer mentors share tips on everything from test-taking to using campus resources. Some of the students in LCs study together; many in LCs become long-lasting friends.
