Spring and summer Courses Abroad
May–July 2012
Spend three to six weeks of your summer experiencing life in a different country, earning academic credit, and enhancing your learning through a field study.
LAS Courses Abroad offer a variety of topics, ranging from service learning to history to politics to languages. All of the courses are taught in English (or the language being studied) and offer ample opportunities for you to explore local history and contemporary life. Classes usually carry three hours of college credit and are taught by University of Illinois faculty.
Program Fees: $2,400 and $4,800*
Includes accommodations, orientations, excursions. Airfare and meals may be included. Tuition and fees (for 3-6 credit hours) are not usually included. Courses that begin in the spring term go with spring tuition. Summer only courses require summer registration and tuition.
Deadline for Applications: Some deadlines are as early as December and none later than mid-February. See program information for details.
Applications and a non-refundable $25 application fee may be completed online. Confirmations of course offerings and dates, based on minimum enrollments, will be made after the deadline.
Scholarships: The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a limited number of LAS Course Abroad scholarships to LAS students only. Check with the LAS Student Academic Affairs Office.
All students may apply for other scholarships, such as the I4I study abroad scholarship, through the Study Abroad Office.

- Global Studies Courses place special emphasis on interaction with the local culture through research and/or service projects.
- Lumbisi, Ecuador
- In the small Andean community of Lumbisi, work with a nonprofit group to run a summer camp for local children. Through this service project you will learn about education and community development in a setting of incredible natural and human diversity. Some knowledge of the Spanish is advisable.
