Burkina Faso

Program Summary

Burkina Faso

Go beyond the photos we see and the news sound bytes we hear about development in sub-Saharan Africa. Gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by Africans trying to escape poverty. This course will focus on examining development issues in Burkina Faso and studying how individuals respond to the incentives of globalization. We will study policies and programs that have succeeded, as well as failed, to offer the right incentives to individuals (whether in a household, a firm, a village, or a country) and how these policies have had a significant impact on people. Through conversations with Burkinabe, aid workers, and other development agents and site visits to development projects, develop your own informed opinion of what types of development programs are beneficial, sustainable, and show the most promise.
