Delhi, India

Program Summary

Coveted, conquered, and remade first by the Mughals and then by the British, Delhi/New Delhi is today the proud capital of a flourishing independent democracy poised to influence the whole world. Enjoy Delhi's Hindu, Mughal, Sikh, and British architecture, feel the city's vibrancy, ride its contemporary Metro, absorb India's religious and caste equations, and understand the subtleties of New Delhi's international relations and of India's internal politics. Delhi offers an unparalleled combination of cultures, ideas, and historic monuments. You will visit one of the world's wonders—the Taj Mahal in Agra—in addition to Delhi's great sites, including the house where Mahatma Gandhi spent his last days and was killed. Expect interactions with artists, authors, Dalits (former "untouchables"), young Indians who are in daily touch with the U.S. from their call-centers, and others.
