The Lunch on Us Programs from OIIR offer a unique opportunity to engage with your peers in a fruitful discussion of identity, social phenomena, and justice on campus. Peace for Boston: An Interfaith Response

Interfaith in Action is sponsoring “Peace for Boston: An Interfaith Response” to commemorate the victims of Boston through a service event and vigil that will promote a peaceful response to violence. Meal packaging will take place. Following the service event there will be a dialogue and vigil at Alma Mater on the southeast corner of Green & Wright to discuss the ways our faith and non-faith philosophies teach us to react peacefully to violence. Come for the meal packaging, the vigil, or both! Your participation in any way is encouraged.

Story of a Rape Survivor

A Long Walk Home, Inc. Story of a Rape Survivor (SOARS) is an award-winning multimedia performance that entertains as well as educates the audience about sexual assault prevention. Featuring the music of Nina Simone, Maxwell, and Sade, SOARS tells one woman’s story about how she reclaimed her body, sexuality, and self-esteem after being sexually assaulted in college. The ultimate aim is to show that the shame, guilt and self-blame that rape victims too often experience can be eased; that the stories of rape survivors can be one of triumph and hope. The Internet has not only vastly changed the way we communicate, becoming the virtual pathways for processing information of all sorts and socializing, but it has increasingly become the hunting ground for sexual predators as well. Using new methods in art therapy and the digital arts, such as photography, projection, video, Twitter, and Facebook, and live feed, this talk discusses how state-of-the-art technology can empower communities and individuals to prevent and heal from sexual violence.

Second Annual Naked Bike Ride

Amnesty International is hosting its second annual Naked Bike Ride to promote health care accessibility and awareness for other health care concerns. Show your body to support everyone’s right to take care of theirs. This event is open to bicyclists, pedestrians, runners, rollerbladers, skateboarders, people on scooters, and any other form of transport. Furthermore, participants in all states of dress are welcome, whether fully nude or completely clothed. Rachel Lauren Storm, assistant director of WRC, trained sex educator of Our Whole Lives comprehensive sex education curriculum. She has led sexual health workshops on campus and in the local community. Brittany Rasky is a Sexual Health GA at McKinley Health Center, she promotes sexual health awareness alongside the sexual health educator through workshops, presentations, and walk-in hours. She facilitated workshops on sexual health through Sexual Health Peers, FYCARE and is a Rape Crisis Worker. Brittany is an LGBT ally. She is pursuing an MS in social work. WRC is accessible.
