LAS Chalk FAQs
Thanks for submitting an event to LAS Chalk! We’re happy to help publicize your event. Here are some answers to common questions we receive throughout the year:
Who gets LAS Chalk?
Every undergraduate student in LAS receives the newsletter via email every Monday during the spring and fall semesters, except on breaks and holidays.
When is the entry deadline?
The deadline for entries is noon on Thursday for the following Monday’s newsletter.
I submitted my entry before the deadline. Why isn’t it in the newsletter?
There’s more than one possible reason. First, to keep the newsletter timely and relevant, we publish events only during the week that they occur. Exceptions include events with early registration or application deadlines, or early ticket sales. If you submit an event early, there’s no need to re-submit. We’ll keep your entry on file until the week that it’s scheduled to occur.
Also, we generally do not publish off-campus events or events that are not specifically designed for students. Exceptions are for internships and other events in which students are recruited on campus.
Lastly, we never exclude entries because we don’t agree with their politics or other content. But if they’re offensive, inflammatory, derogatory, promote illegal activity, etc., we will keep it out.
Do you edit the entries?
Only for spelling and obvious grammatical mistakes. We also edit the date and time to be consistent (i.e. Monday, Aug. 29, 7 p.m.)
Can you put my entry at the top?
We put entries strictly in chronological order, with the soonest first. If it’s a tie, we’ll put the entry that was submitted first on top.
Can you publish my entry more than once?
To prevent the newsletter from getting redundant or outdated, we generally publish events only once. If you have a regularly occurring meeting, we will publish meeting notices up to once a month if you resubmit the entry.
Can I email you my event information?
Please submit your event information via the "Submit Your Event" link at the top of every newsletter. That’s the only way to guarantee that a Chalk editor will receive your entry on time. Emailed entries will be returned with a request to submit the information through the link.
